today was kind of wild. i woke up at 7 to do a 4 page paper that was due at 11. of course i finished, and i don't think it was that bad either. i think i'll get a b+. i was in a complete daze in my modlitbrit class because i only got about 3 and a half hours of sleep. we started covering ulysses. it seemed cool, even though i did absolutely zero reading on it yet.
i decided to skip my heiroglyphs class. at the train stop, i talked to dave rietzen for the first time since before christmas break. i was going to go cross country skiing with him at hawk island, but the snow was too melty. i told him we should definitely do it some other time, as i've never skied (what the hell is the past tense of ski?) before. so instead, i went home, ate a chicken pot pie, and passed out on my couch for four hours. woke up, realized i was running late, and showed up to my english renaissance lit class a half hour late. yeah there's this girl there that is freakin gorgeous, and i'm gonna start talking to her. then i'll probably come to find that she has a boyfried or a wang or something, because that's kind of how it's been for me lately. hahahaha minus the wang part. hopefully. hahahaha.
ahhh the real olympics start tomorrow. the men's ice hockey. ooh boy it's gonna be good. i'm still rooting for finland all the way. i mean come on, with guys like teemu selanne, saku koivu, jere lehtenen, olli jokinen, and of course jussi "8-for-8 in shootouts with the same unbeatable move" jokinen, what's not to love? oh, and antero niittymaki in net. he's the man.
but i of course i'm all about america by default. i doubt they'll go far because there is too much of a discrepency between tired vets like bill guerin and chris chelios and young, truly skilled players like brian gionta and scott gomez. but esche and knuble are on the team, so that'll help. i also kind of like russia's chances too. ovechkin and kovalchuk on the same team? for real? oh and pavel datsyuk? they definitely don't lack firepower, but cohesiveness has always been a problem. if they can find a way to gel, then they'll cause nothing less than a shitstorm.
so yeah, here's my hopeful medals:
gold- finland
silver- russia
bronze- usa
here's the likely scenario:
gold- canada
silver- czech republic
bronze- sweden
canada is absolutely stacked. they have three straight lines of pure scorers. not to mention arguably the world's best goalie in martin brodeur. look for the joe thorton-rick nash-simon gagne line to be as effective as the last olympics.
the czech republic has jaromir jagr, and he's been an absolute beast this year. and they also have dominic hasek in net, who has had a rebirth.
sweden is just solid through and through. even without the likes of markus naslund and, presumably, peter forsberg, they have talent. daniel alfredsson will probably be their clutch guy, but with the emergence of the sedin twins, daniel and henrik, look for a balanced attack. furthermore, rookie goalie henrik lundqvist has been unconcious this year, and if he can play well, sweden will go far.
alright enough out of me. SUOMI!
